The Lebanon Public Library History RoomCollection houses research materials on Lebanon, the Upper Valley, and on the State of New Hampshire. It is the library's goal to make these unique materials available for public use. Search through the holdings on this page for what you need, then ask for assistance from our Reference Staff. The Archival Request Form explains the protocols for using the History Room. The form can be downloaded and filled out in advance if you wish.
The History Room collection has a variety of books. These include Lebanon High School Yearbooks; city directories; local histories; town and school reports; several family genealogies; histories of surrounding communities; N.H. Civil War regimental histories.

Lebanon Biographies A collection of Lebanon biographies (many taken from obituary notices) from the nineteenth century and early twentieth century; a great source on Lebanon residents and family research. Lebanon Historical Society Annual Reports 1959-1963 Illustrations and articles from the Lebanon Historical Society. Articles include "The Oldest Cemetery in Lebanon, New Hampshire" ; "Lebanon Industry and Business, 1761-1961" ; and a "History of Lebanon's Schools."
Historical Sketches of Early Lebanon
"The Lafayette Hotel", "The Old Grist Mill", and "A Series on Early West Lebanon" are included in this book. History of Lebanon, New Hampshire 1761-1887
This book contains dozens of topics on Lebanon history, such as "Controversy with Enfield"; "Sale of Spirituous Liquors"; and "Burying Grounds".
The Lebanon Library Staff has

Lebanon Public Library has historical information on microfilm. War papers from the Civil War; Town Reports from 1852-1964; and a variety of tax roll information and City Council meeting minutes. Lebanon Microfilm Collection
The library has newspaper collections on microfilm, most importantly the Valley News. Area Newspapers, Past and
Present.
The collection also includes a typed index from 1848 to 1880 of the Granite State Whig and Granite State Free Press.
The History Room Collection contains an additional selection of historical materials in the Vertical File. Historic pictures of Lebanon and West Lebanon; Lebanon topographic maps; old cemeteries in Lebanon; reports on the gales and flooding of 1936 and 1938; and an index
of families recorded in the first book of records of Lebanon.

These historic surveys include such information as date of construction; a photo; a map; a description of the building; and a statement of significance: architectural importance or historical associations. Not all streets and buildings are included in the survey. Please check the survey lists.
