Let's Dig In !

Friends of the Kilton Library project were glad to lend a hand (and a shovel!) as Kilton construction begins!
On Friday, April 3, 2009, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kilton Public Library in West Lebanon took place.
On Friday, April 3, the weather was cold, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the Kilton Project faithful who showed up to see their dream become a reality.
The MacMillan Construction Company of Keene began work on Monday, April 6, 2009. Soon, the Kilton Library will be a vibrant addition to Main Street in West Lebanon.
A large and enthusiastic group gathered for the Kilton Library kickoff.

The Project Site

The Kilton Library will be built on Main Street in West Lebanon. The site for the Kilton Library Project is on a 1.24 acre lot on Main Street in West Lebanon, across from the West Lebanon Library. Funds to purchase the land came from the estate of longtime West Lebanon residents James and Willena Kilton. To supplement the Kilton endowment, a capital campaign is now underway before construction can begin.

Tappe Associates, Inc. of Boston are the project architects. The drawings presented on this page are renderings of the proposed library done by Tappe. The plan calls for a building with 15,000 square feet of space. This will include an outdoor reading garden; ample children's and adult services sections; a large meeting room; an art gallery; and separate library parking.

Kilton Library Project in action!
June 2009 Update
Each day, the Kilton Project advances. From a mound of earth to foundation walls to high-rise beams, the Kilton Library begins to take shape. In less than a year, with much hard work, this wonderful new building will be open for business!
The Kilton Library is scheduled to open in late Spring, 2010.
The library was desgined by Tappe Associates of Boston, and is being constructed by the Macmillin Company, Inc. of Keene, New Hampshire.

The Kilton Library will be 15,000 square feet, with a starting collection of approximately 15,000 volumes.
The Kilton facility will feature an outdoor courtyard, a reading garden, and a gallery for exhibitions.

At Kilton, there will also be an auditorium for community meetings and performances.
No fossil fuels will be burned at the new library; it will be environmentally safe, with a wood pellet fired boiler.
